Kent Messenger Green School Awards 2020

On Thursday 13th February 2020, Bradfields Academy triumphed at the KM Green School Awards which took place at Ashford International Hotel.

Staff and students attended the KM Charity Team Green School Awards to collect the Best Green Champion Award for our Walking Stories.

The Green School Awards aim to promote the amazing campaigns and work carried out by pupils and schools across London and the South East. 

There were several award categories, including: green travel, clean air for schools, recycling projects and the school crossing patrol service.

A number of Medway council representatives attended including: Portfolio Holder for Frontline Services, Cllr Phil Filmer, Cllr David Brake, Portfolio Holder covering Public Health, Assistant Director of Frontline Services, Ruth Du Lieu, James Williams, Director of Public Health, and council staff.

Seven Medway schools were recognised for their great work and won the following awards:

  • Best Green Travel Award - Greenacre Academy
  • Best Recycling School Award - Chatham Grammar School for Girls
  • Best School Clean Air Award - St Mary's Island CEP School
  • Best Walking Bus Award - Walderslade Primary School
  • Best Recycling School Award - Kingfisher Primary School
  • Best Green Champion - Bradfields Academy (Fortis Trust)
  • School Crossing Patrol Award - Jean Loynes, Burnt Oak Primary

‘Making a difference now, makes a difference for our future’

Cllr Phil Filmer, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Frontline Services, said: “I am very proud of all the hard work and dedication our local schools have put into their projects. I am pleased that their work has been recognised and celebrated at the awards. It is incredibly important that we all do our part to help make Medway a greener and safer place to live.”

A massive well done to the English Department for all of their hard work with this scheme.
