End of Term Letter - 12/02/2021

12 February 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

We have reached the end of another term. Thank you for your support and understanding through the difficulties of lockdown and snow closures.

The Department for Education (DFE) have said that for Term 4 all schools are to remain partially open to critical workers and the most vulnerable as we have been for Term 3. The DFE will give a further update on the 22nd February 2021 as to whether it is safe for schools to open to more students from the 8th March 2021. We will ensure that as soon as we receive this update, you will be informed.

Careers Day 12th February 2021

We previously wrote to parents about Careers day. Careers day will be going ahead today as planned. Please support your child in engaging with the sessions.   Students in KS3 – 5 can access the resources in the following o365 channels:

Year 7 – 9 KS3 Careers day

Year 10 – 11 and Therapeutic group KS4 Careers day

Year 12 – 14 KS5 Careers day

Please refer to previous correspondence for timings of live sessions. All other groups will be able to access resources in their normal class channels and on SeeSaw.

Contact Tracing

The Department for Education has identified that in order to support with contact tracing over the February holiday, schools and academies need to be made aware of any positive COVID-19 tests that occur. In order to do this, we are asking parents and carers to once again report any positive cases to our dedicated email address:

covidreporting@fortistrust.co.uk

This email address will be available throughout the holiday period. For those students in the academy please report any absence that will impact on the start of Term 4 in the usual way.

Remote Learning

Well done to all the students who have engaged in remote learning this term and thank you to parents and careers for working closely with the teachers to support your children in accessing the learning. Remote learning will cease for the half term week so that students and parents can have a well-deserved rest. Term 4 and remote learning will begin again on the 22nd February.

Medway Local Authority’s Winter Support Grant

The national free school meal provision has not been extended by the government to cover the February half term. Instead Medway LA will be using their Winter Support Grant to provide those who are eligible for Free School Meals with a £10 food voucher, which will be sent to you at the beginning of next week.

Very sad news

It is with deep regret that the academy has to share some very sad news with our parents and carers. A long standing member of our staff team, Mrs Wells has sadly passed away. Mrs Wells was a member of our outreach team supporting children in the academy and at other schools across Medway. She will be missed by all.

This will be upsetting news to the academy community but as always Bradfields parents, staff and students will pull together to support each other through these times. Please be assured that the family is being supported through this.

News like this would ordinarily cause anxiety for people who are linked with the academy and particularly so in the midst of this pandemic.

If your son or daughter mentions this at home please reassure them that should they want to talk to anybody about this then they can speak to any member of staff in the academy, or they can contact the academy if they are learning from home.

Parents of Year 10 students

Please can we ask that parents of Year 10 students go online to inform Medway of what their preference is for their child’s Post 16 education. Parents need to access the platform via the following link:

https://www.medway.gov.uk/info/200137/schools_and_learning/1064/apply_for_a_school_place_if_your_child_has_an_education_health_and_care_plan

If any parents require support with this process, please contact the academy.

I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable half term break.

Yours sincerely

Marie Sweetlove

Principal
