Parental Guidance Update - 15/07/2021

Dear Parents/Carers

I am sure we have all seen the news headlines regarding the Governments Stage 4 removal of Covid measures.  There are a number of implications for schools and I wanted to give a brief update on our response as below;

Removal of bubbles and return in September.

The guidance states that schools can remove year/community group bubbles from the 19 July, for us this only affects our last week of term.   As I am sure you can appreciate, there are large logistical issues in removing our approach to groupings for bubbles and we are therefore remaining as we are until the end of Term 6.  This will ensure that we can maintain consistency for the students.

Students will return in September to a ‘normal’ model based on their classes, year groups and communities and will be able to move freely around the whole academy interacting with others.

We have not been able to undertake our normal transition days during this term for new starters and as such these will be at the beginning of September. Therefore, please make a note of the following dates:

Thursday 2nd September:  Year 7 students Transition day 1

New Primary students Stay and Play sessions

Friday 3rd September:       Year 7 students Transition day 2

Year 10 and Year 12 students (Not Maple, Ash or Pine Communities)

New Primary students Stay and Play sessions

Monday 6th September:     Academy is open to all students

Use of face coverings

From the 19 July the use of face coverings for staff who are not able to socially distance is no longer advised.  We will be continuing with our policy that students and staff do not have to wear masks, however they may do so if they wish.

PE Kits

From September students and sixth-formers will be able to get changed on site for PE, This means that they will no longer be required to attend the academy in their PE Kits for their PE lessons. We will return to students and sixth-formers bringing in their PE kits and changing in the changing rooms at the start of the PE lesson.  We therefore expect all students to be in the correct uniform at the start of term.  Details of this can be found on the website.

Student and staff testing

The expectation that students and staff should home test continues until the end of September.  In reality, this means asking all students to continue home testing until 23 July.  In September all students will be asked to undertake two tests in school as they return.  The arrangements will be very similar to the March testing centre and no student will be asked to undertake a test without parental permission.  I will write with further details nearer to the time.

Outbreak Management Plan

Should the academy experience an ‘outbreak’, we will be required to follow our Outbreak Management plan and the advice of Public Health. This may mean that we are required to re-introduce temporary restrictions such as the wearing of face coverings, social distancing, etc. Should this occur we will inform parents immediately and make clear the measures we are required to introduce. In order to hopefully avoid this happening, please can I ask parents to keep unwell children at home until they are well enough to attend the academy.

Track, trace and isolate

From 16 August students under 18 will no longer be expected to isolate if they have been a close contact of a Covid case.  This means that from September, only students who have actually had a positive test will need to isolate.  I would like to thank all students and parents for working with us on isolation over this term, it is very much appreciated.  I am sure that acting swiftly on cases has helped us to keep Covid infections in our community to an absolute minimum.

Change to published Term dates

The Spring Bank Holiday in 2022 has been moved by the government to Thursday 2 June and an additional Bank Holiday added on Friday 3 June to create a four-day weekend to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The government has laid regulations to reduce the minimum number of sessions schools are required to meet in the academic year 2021 to 2022. This means that Term 6 will now start on Wednesday 8th June.

Should you have any queries, please contact the academy office on 01634 683990 or email

Yours sincerely
