Bradfields Academy

Red Zone

Red Zone is located on the Upper Site consisting of Year 10 and 11 students.

Students start and end the day with their form tutors.  In the morning sessions they follow a scheme of work based around appropriate Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) and Character Strengths.  One assembly a week is dedicated to furthering this work.  On a Friday we have an achievement assembly where staff nominate students for awards in several different categories.

All students in the Red Zone access the full National Curriculum and accredited courses (see the Curriculum Section of the Website).  These subjects are taught at an appropriate level for each student's ability.  Those requiring additional support can access a specialised group known as KS4 Programme 1.

Reports and Reviews

Throughout the academic year each student will :

  1. Receive a full report on his/her progress in each subject and current level of attainment.
  2. Engage in a full review of his/her progress at the academy and review his/her current special educational needs. This is known as an Annual Review of their Statement of SEN / Education & Health Care Plan (EHCP).

Parents and Carers will have the opportunity to attend an evening session where they can meet with all their child's teachers following receipt of their report.  Known as a Parent & Carer Information Evening.  Please see the Calendar for the dates.

Parents and Carers are invited to attend the Annual Review which is a private meeting for them with the Transitional Co-Ordinator and any other involved agencies.

Planning for the Future

In March each year the Year 11 students have the opportunity to choose if they want to continue to Year 12 or move to college.  This is a special evening event where Year 11 students can join their Parents and Carers in a meeting with Subject Teachers and receive advice on the most appropriate courses to pursue.

Dinner Arrangements

Students can choose to have a cooked dinner or a packed lunch and everybody eats this in the Upper Site Main Hall.  Following lunch students can access Outdoor Play or a variety of clubs that are on offer.

Clubs and Activities

Please see Clubs for an extended list.

Please see our Fundraising Page with up-to-date news on our latest fundraising events and guidance on how you can donate to the Academy.

Open Sessions

We value the opportunity to have Parents & Carers and family friends in the Red Zone each term for an informal Coffee Morning or Afternoon Tea.

This is an opportunity to look at students work, talk to staff as well as other Parents/Carers at the academy.  The Food Technology department provide delicious cakes and there are a range of stalls to gather information about outside clubs and opportunities.  Lead Students help to lead the event.  Please see the Calendar for the next date.

In KS4, students are able to apply to be a Lead Student. They assist staff on duty, run clubs and supervise break and lunch activities, such as the KS4 Football Competition.
