RAAC Concrete

Dear Parents and Carers

Re: RAAC Concrete

I hope you have all had a great summer period, even though we are still awaiting for the sun to shine.

You will have no doubt heard in the news that a number of schools have been forced to close or partially open due to the presence of RAAC concrete. This was a lightweight concrete used as a convenient construction material in many schools and buildings several years ago. This concrete has now been discovered to be crumbling and cracking.

I would like to reassure all parents that as part of the work that the DFE are undertaking on site we have had a full survey to determine if this concrete was used in any constructions on Bradfields site. These surveys have confirmed that we do not have this concrete.

The work that is being undertaken at the lower site is not related to this concrete, but simply that the building has reached the end of its serviceable life and is more cost effective to replace than repair and bring up to modern day standards.

We are, therefore, opening as published to the new Year 7’s and new Primary students on Tuesday 5th September and the entire academy on Wednesday 6th September 2023.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Walters

Principal
