I just wanted to pass on my thanks to all of the staff who supported and challenged Josh to be the very best that he could be.
I wanted to let you know that Josh managed to secure a place at Foxes Academy in Minehead and started there a couple of weeks ago, at the beginning of the new term. He has settled well and is enjoying life and studies in Minehead and has made a good start to the next part of his journey.
I would be grateful if you could pass particular thanks on to Mrs. Brook. She knew exactly how to push and challenge Josh at the beginning of his time at Bradfields, and also sparked his love and desire to be a chef. Mr. Walker and Mr. Seales continued to challenge and support Josh as he continued his studies. Mr Seales was a particular support and champion of Josh with our drive to secure him a place at Foxes.
All of the staff at the Academy worked their wonders with him and enabled him to confidently move far away from home to pursue his ambition of becoming a chef. His experiences with Food2Eat certainly have given him great foundations to build on. We truly thank all the staff.
Lewis’s Speech from the Fortis Trust Certificate Presentation Awards Evening | Thursday 16th November 2023
“Hello Bradfields Academy, I am here today to give this speech to give my piece on why it has been an honour and privilege to be Deputy Head for Year 12 and 13 and Head Student for Year 14. It has given me a responsibility within Bradfields Academy throughout Year 12, 13 and 14 and I am thankful to the people who gave me the chance to succeed in that role.
If it wasn’t for that chance and confidence boost that Bradfields Academy as a whole gave me I probably wouldn’t be giving this speech here at this moment in time.
And that is why Bradfields Academy is one of the best schools around in Kent. It never gives up on the students and helps them throughout their secondary/primary school life.
I also made a lot of friends as well that I hope will continue throughout adulthood, Bradfields gave me that opportunity to make long lasting friendships.
All these points I’ve laid out on this speech is why I’m so thankful that I got my education at Bradfields Academy.
The last thing I want to take note on is that the teachers at Bradfields Academy are also a massive reason why Bradfields is so amazing. Thank you Bradfields and the teachers for giving me the chance, the confidence and willpower that will follow me throughout the whole rest of my life.”
Sohpie’s Speech from the Fortis Trust Certificate Presentation Awards Evening | Thursday 16th November 2023
Thank you all for being here and attending our presentation evening event.
My name is Sophie and I have been asked as last year’s Head Student to speak to you all on this night of celebration and awards.
I would like to share my experiences in Bradfields and the opportunities they provide as well. As well as my own personal journey.
I, as many others, was a school refuser. I used to hate going to school, always getting told I wouldn’t do well in life because I wasn’t the best at maths, English and so on. I used to be so anxious and so nervous of anything and everything.
When I joined Bradfields Sixth Form in September 2020, I was very nervous. I was worried that I wouldn’t fit in, make friends; I was worried I wouldn’t do well. I was very wrong. From the start the staff have been so welcoming and have made me feel a part of the Bradfields family.
Bradfields as a whole is so supportive, the staff do the most every day to support their students in every way. They provide many choices for students, such as qualifications from entry level to A Level. They also provide work experience twice a week. They also provide life skill based lessons, such as travel training, work skills and community volunteering.
When students leave Bradfields, they have the opportunity to join an internship programme at Forward2Employment, which has had massive success in gaining internships and employment for ex-students.
Bradfields has been so supportive of me every step of the way, they helped me become so confident within myself and helped me get numerous GCSEs, even giving me the opportunity to do English A levels, which never in a million years I’d thought I’d get the opportunity to do. I’m now a student at MidKent College in Gillingham, doing an A Level Hospitality and Catering course.
I’m so grateful for all the help and support Bradfields has given me over the years.
I have loved every moment of being a Bradfields student.
Thank you for listening.”
In the short time that Duncan has been with Forward2Employment we have seen significant improvement to his confidence and his ability to use the skills provided to become an independent young adult.
We are supporting Duncan with his Internship at Amazon. Once he completed all his health and safety training he was able to start working in the warehouse immediately.
With support from his Job Coach, Duncan was soon able to work independently and took the initiative to ask for further training in other areas of the warehouse.
Within just three months Duncan already knows four different jobs and has received amazing feedback from Leadership on how well he has adapted to a workplace environment. He has also established close friendships and a good rapport with work colleagues.
Duncan is progressing well with his independent travel training in preparation for finding permanent employment.
Well done, Duncan! Keep up the great work!
Hello, my name is Sadie and I am the former Head Girl.
I joined Bradfields in Year 10 and previously attended Thomas Aveling School. When I joined Bradfields, I was incredibly nervous, as the surroundings were so very different from what I’d previously experienced. I wasn’t sure whether I would be able to settle in but little did I know that Bradfields would be where my journey in education began. When I joined Bradfields, I’d been through a huge life change and had not long finished my treatment for Cancer and was struggling with “fitting” back into schooling.
Whilst at Bradfields, I found a love for education that I didn’t previously have, as I struggled so much at my previous school. At Bradfields, I felt like a person and not just a number. I was given the help that I needed and the confidence that I needed to reach my goals, dreams and aspirations. The ethos at Bradfields was “you can achieve whatever you want to achieve” and with the support and guidance from the Teachers, in particular Mr. Garbutt, I was able to achieve more than I ever could imagine. Here are a few of the things I achieved:-
I achieved GCSE’s in English, Maths, & RE.
I achieved BTEC’s in Health & Social Care.
I achieved a number of passes in Entry Level 3 coursework.
I secured a place on the student council (something I’d always wanted since year 3 where I used to vote for myself because you could !! even though I voted for myself, I still didn’t get a place).
I secured the deputy head girl post.
I was an active member of Think Forward.
I also achieved an A-Level & AS-Level in English Literature (thanks Mr Garbutt!! All the “meltdowns” were worth it weren’t they!!)
I then went onto achieve what I believe was my greatest achievement and that was becoming head girl. Whilst being head girl, I made sure that I was responsible, took the position with care and made sure that everyone had a voice and that every student felt like a “somebody”. In my time of being head girl, I was forced to do many things that were outside of my comfort zone because the teachers knew that I was more than capable, I just needed to be confident in myself. I undertook many speeches, I helped to arrange many events, even the Jubilee.
It was with great sadness that I decided that my journey at Bradfields had come to an end because it had given me all of the life skills, the confidence, the independence and the belief that “if I just put my mind to it, I can achieve it”. This gave me the confidence to embark upon studying at Mid Kent College in Maidstone where I am now studying a Level 2 Travel & Tourism Course. Without Bradfields and their guidance and support, I would never imagine that I would be able to study a course like this.
I owe a lot to Bradfields and would like to thank everyone, students and teachers for making me the person I am today. You have given me skills I never knew I could have and with the guidance you have given me, I finally felt ready to fly!!!!!
